Ward Visitor

Volunteer role description.

Role Title: Radio Hillingdon Ward Visitor

Reporting to: The Station Director

Aim: To introduce Radio Hillingdon to the adult patients of Hillingdon Hospital.

Benefits: You will gain a sense of achievement, enjoyment and social interaction.

Roles and responsibilities
  • Visit Patients at their bedside and inform them that they can listen to Radio Hillingdon free of charge over the Hospedia bedside terminal, online at www.radiohillingdon.com or via the Radio Hillingdon app which can be found in the Apple or Android app stores.
  • Volunteers will need to be able to visit the wards in the Hospital Monday to Sunday between 1:00pm and 5:00pm.
  • Volunteers need to be able to be friendly, enthusiastic, approachable and be cheerful.
  • Inform Patients that we broadcast 24 hours a day via the mediums listed above and promote our FREE Request line number 0300 12 10 219 and inform patients how to get a request played on air.
  • Inform the Patients that we also have National, International, Local News, and what's on bulletins regularly during the day.
  • Assist patients register themselves on the Hospedia System to enable them to listen to Radio Hillingdon. Also show them how to use the Hospedia Terminal. Alternatively assist them to download our free apple / android app onto their own devices.
  • Distribute Radio Hillingdon Magazines and Hospedia Headphones.
  • Take a note of any Hospedia terminals that are not working and report them to Hospedia so they can be repaired.
  • Comply with the Hospital Infection control, Ward Security and the Hospital Volunteers policies
  • Respect patients dignity and understand when patients do not wish to be bothered.
  • Volunteers will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check and inform us of any health related issues that affect them ward visiting.
  • Volunteers will need to undergo a 3 month probationary membership period before their membership will be reviewed for full membership.
  • Volunteers should be aged 18 years or over.

Fund-raiser

Volunteer role description.

Role Title: Radio Hillingdon Fund-raiser

Reporting to: The Fund-raising Co-coordinator

Aim: To participate in fund-raising activities and help raise funds.

Benefits: You will gain a sense of achievement, enjoyment and social interaction. Also a sense of pride and satisfaction that you are helping us to help someone during their time of need.

Roles and responsibilities
  • Attend Radio Hillingdon Fund-raising activities such as Road Shows, Bucket collections, Quiz Nights, Table top sales, tombola's etc.
  • Volunteers will need to be flexible with availability. A majority of our activities are at the weekend with the occasional week day.
  • Activities take place around the Hillingdon Borough, so transport would be useful.
  • Volunteers need to be able to smile, appear enthusiastic, and be cheerful and outgoing.
  • Comply with the Hospital Volunteers policy and Radio Hillingdon policies.
  • Volunteers will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check, and confirm they are medically fit and able to perform the role.
  • Volunteers will need to undergo a 3 month probationary membership period before their membership will be reviewed for full membership.
  • Volunteers should be aged 18 years or over.

Request Collector / Presenter

Volunteer role description.

Role Title: Radio Hillingdon Request Collector / Presenter

Reporting to: The Station Director

Aim: To collect music requests and play them to the adult patients of Hillingdon Hospital.

Benefits: You will gain a sense of achievement, enjoyment and social interaction. Also a sense of pride and satisfaction that you are helping someone during their time of need.

Roles and responsibilities
  • Visit Patients at their bedside and inform them that they can listen to Radio Hillingdon free of charge over the Hospedia bedside terminal, online at www.radiohillingdon.com or via the tune in radio app on Apple or Android devices.
  • Volunteers will need to be able to visit the wards in the Hospital. Monday to Sunday between 7:00pm and 10:00pm, to collect requests from the patients and then announce and play them on air.
  • Volunteers need to be able to smile, appear enthusiastic and be cheerful. In order to be a kind of Friend at the bedside of the patients.
  • Inform Patients that we broadcast 24 hours a day via the mediums listed above.
  • Promote our FREE Request line number *800 and inform them how to get a request played on air.
  • Assist patients register themselves on the Hospedia System to enable them to listen to Radio Hillingdon. Also show them how to use the Hospedia Terminal. Training will be given.
  • Distribute Radio Hillingdon Magazines and Hospedia Headphones.
  • Take a note of any Hospedia terminals that are not working and report them to Hospedia so they can be repaired.
  • Comply with the Hospital Infection control, ward Security and volunteers policies. Comply with the Hospital Radio Hillingdon policies.
  • Undertake a Presenter Training Programme.
  • Volunteers will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check, and confirm they are medically fit and able to perform the role.
  • Volunteers will need to undergo a 3 month probationary membership period before their membership will be reviewed for full membership.
  • Volunteers should be aged 18 years or over.
